yasha is 28 year old joe gillick, who grew up immersed in the sounds of ukg & grime on the streets of south london. he founded orphan. in 2015 with his friends sage redman and billy meddleton. the three began throwing bi-monthly parties in deptford, their aim was to feature the unsung heroes, the seminal artists that weren’t often regulars in the crowded london club circuit. cutting his chops djing alongside the likes of tim goldsworthy (dfa, mo’ wax, unkle), dave okumu (the invisible, jessie ware), the golden filter (optimo), mica levi (micachu) and more, joe fed his keen sensibility for club grooves. cut to 2018 and joe finds himself a seattleite.

catch recordings return with their 13th release, this time from dj najaora. hes an emerging talent from the ever growing techno region in georgia who s mature, fully formed sound is showcased here across three innovative left-field techno & electro tracks. the excellent night dreamers takes the a1 spot. its an analogue electro cut throughout. with forceful broken drums accompanied by electric lead lines that provide a powerful energy for the dance floor. space call is a more cerebral and less dance floor affair that has you day dreaming amongst the meandering pads and classic detroit electro vibes. a soft acid line runs throughout, while the whole cuts creates nostalgia of old warp records last of all simulaq which takes the b-side has wide and vast rubber kicks alongside booming bass. making this side a merge of bass and electro. trippy stabs and dark energy pervades the whole thing, making it track for the late hours. while 13 is an unlucky number for some, this certainly doesn t seem to be the case for catch recordings.

2nd ep from david kitts new jackson yous lp released in march this year a mini lp of sorts featuring 5 new tracks! according to david: like lightning was written after a late night/early morning adventure with friends in galway city a good few years ago now. i always find it hard to choose singles but this seemed to be lot of people s favourite album track. i ve availed of every last second of space on the 10 inch to turn this release into a mini-album of sorts with three quite different instrumentals one part folk, one part modular electronic and one recorded using two buddah boxes in the glasgow underground. there are also two unreleased songs that have knocking around the hard drive for a while but fit nicely on this release.

cassegrain announce collaborative ep. the berlin based duo of alex tsiridis & hüseyin evirgen will release new work recorded alongside dj nobu, tensal & lady starlight via their own arcing seas imprint in september. leaning towards the more heady, high octane end of the genre - the three track ep showcases the duos natural affinity for collaboration, maintaining evirgen & tsiridis characteristic finish and atten-tion to detail, whilst providing ample space for the guests to properly colour the work. ct01, alongside tensal, marries caustic drones with a potent lead sequence to produce a perfect peak time roller, whilst cn01, with dj nobu, riffs on a more melodic, stepping approach - maintaining that same rousing energy, but with a more psychedelic bent. cls01, the duos collaboration with la-dy starlight comes in at almost 11 minutes, an ambient techno journey that warps and shifts organi-cally across its extended run time - complete with beat-less intro and multiple segues that work to bind the piece and its different sections into one, cohesive narrative. effective and impeccably produced - but with a keen ear for new & exciting sonics within the genre - this first collaborative outing proves an enviable addition to the duos already impressive discogra-phy.

after the initial label launch in 2016, desroi has been working insistently. debuting on labels such as henning baer’s manhigh or shifted’s avian, the young artist has worked his name into the scene. this time, desroi returns to his own imprint with “eutheria”. with an unadorned focus on percussive drive and rugged atmosphere all three tracks invite to be played out in a dark but hypnotizing warehouse rave. his ability to shape-shift from experimental sonic explorations right up to pure and straight-forward techno cuts reiterates that desroi is someone to keep an eye on.

seb zitos seven dials imprint serves up its third offering with jamie trench & khalil anthony continuing to champion the early garage flavours that the label is fast becoming known for. what was missing transports you back to the 90s with that ukg groove, bumping sub bass goodness and kahlil s gritty vocals. the dub mix leaves only a small portion of the vocals in the mix, chopping them todd the god style and giving the shuffling garage rhythm more room to breathe. on the b side label head, seb zito, switches things into peak-time roller territory, dampening the kick whilst putting more emphasis on the hats, dubbing out vocal snippets, adding acid flurries and throwing in an epic echoed breakdown. all three mixes make a clear nod to the past, whilst firmly setting themselves in the present gold again from seven dials.

reform, the tuscan techno duo, make a return to etruria beat to follow up the success of 2017s ‘checkmate ep, remixed by amelie lens and their recent ep on second state with a huge new offering - unconventional spaces. reform present three fresh originals, backed by a massive rework from etruria boss luca agnelli. unconventional spaces is a melodic and timeless work, perfect for a magic sunrise closing set. luca delivers a heavier rework, creating a special atmosphere with powerful chords that drift back and forth. just this is characterised by a raw triple stab, a vocal laid down by the guys themselves and an emotional and mysterious break. closing the ep is span, which is composed of bouncing tom samples, straight hats and a moogy bass that develops throughout the arrangement, a perfect peaktime number and strong finalé.

ow finally on vinyl: artbat are bringing their first full ep release to diynamic music. the three-tracker -planeta- starts off with the title track -planeta-, a rapid-fire techno odyssey that might as well be taken from a relentless pursuit in a futuristic action movie. this is followed by the gloomy bassline of -prometheus-. heavy on percussive elements, the track is divided in half by a cascading synth-break only to return with more layers of percussions, strings and the hypnotic bassline. closing off the ep is -sand in your shoes- featuring london based artist dino lenny, who has previously worked with madonna or wu-tang clan and produced remixes for underworld, missy elliot or timbaland. the collab track is a dreamy deep-house tune and a perfectly emotive way to finish the record.

fresh from starting his own label insult to injury, timothy clerkin returns to ransom note records with the knife edge heart ep. three tracks of stirring techno for dark basements and warm hearts. timothy is a very interesting man, but hes also the sort of person whod rather let his music do the talking, so well move on swiftly. the mvp here is knife edge heart, an unabashed pop song whose shimmering exterior is cut through with flashes of steely darkness. frequent collaborator natalie reiss’ glacial voice is held at the perfect level of remove, while timothy allows his love of shoegaze to blossom with a guitar line that seems to extend like a ladder to the stars. with you bridges timothys opposing impulses, balancing sparkling synths and a celestial vocal sample with churning low-end, while divisive is paranoid warehouse techno at its very best. with his debut solo album out soon on phantasy, gabe gurnsey of factory floor stops by for a lurching, seasick remix of knife edge heart that sounds like the onset of the robot apocalypse weve all been promised for so long. after cutting his teeth as one half of eskimo twins, timothy launched his solo career in 2014 under the now-retired heretic moniker. hes since released on labels including throne of blood, hard fist and days of being wild. timothys last release on rsn was the serenade ep, which brought us plenty of special moments last year - most memorably andrew weatherall closing out his houghton quarry set with execute. heres to many more this summer and beyond.

the man, the myth, the legend, back in the 80s jesse rae, along with roger troutman and bernie worrell, was part of the p-funk movement that was hugely influential to detroit’s early electronic experiments. lesser known is that the enigmatic scot-funk warrior later produced underground electronic tracks in the 90s. the inaugural release on glasgow label southside shufflers presents two of jesses shufflers on vinyl for the first time on the global 95 ep- a sampler from his pioneering 1995 album compression. ever the innovator, jesse recorded the album collaboratively using live isdn technology spanning three continents, with the resultant tracks fusing african, us electro-funk and old scots influences. 23 years later, jesse’s under the radar shufflers sound more relevant than ever. southside shufflers are a record label and sports collective based in glasgow with outposts in london and amsterdam. sss aint no half steppin!

matt edwards’ reissue label r-time records presents ‘after dark’ this september with three tracks from mark the 909 king. following reissues of excellent music by sir lord commix, fbk and sanasol (thor & yagya), rekids offshoot r-time records now presents definitive cuts from mark the 909 king. debuting with the timeless ‘can you dig it!’ on sex trax in ’94, the producer went on to release via a number of new york house legend dj duke’s labels throughout the mid-nineties. a huge fan of dj duke since the 90s, matt edwards even held a sex mania night at berghain in 2009 featuring a rare dj performance from the duke himself. alongside tracks by roy davis jr and trackman (jon cutler), ‘after dark’ featured as part of a va release on the label dj exclusive, whilst ‘into space’ landed on rated x records, and ‘the loft’ appeared on the ‘can you dig it’ album via power music records. ‘after dark’ set the tone of the package with a piercing drum groove, airy arpeggios and a funky bassline, before cosmic synths and crunchy snares work alongside scintillating chords in ‘into space.’ concluding the package, ‘the loft’ begins with a hooky bass sequence and filtered effects before soothing melodies come into play.

ellen allien prepares to release her first ever solo ep outside of her bpitch control imprint and has chosen a label she avidly admires, boddika s nonplus. as a dj, producer, bpitch control label founder and organiser of the regular we are not alone parties in the city and elsewhere, ellen allien was not only there when the techno sound of berlin was moulded in the basements of squats all over the capital but continues to be a tireless advocate of all aspects of this culture more than ever, as indicated also by her international vinylism event series. take a stand , her debut release for boddika s nonplus records, is as much informed by all those experiences as it is by the relentless hope and passion that have driven ellen allien ever since she stepped up to the decks of the infamous fischlabor in the early 90s. take a stand is a three-part statement about (and for) the here and now...

kump is delighted to release the first ep by hlm38 (ou hlm38’s first ep), the naughty half of duo ricco and member of the notte brigante crew from lyon. the three original tracks, a mix of ethnic looting and industrial racket in slow motion, feel like steel wrapped in turkish delight. front de cadeaux’s take on “illicite cong” is reminiscent of an erotic rave flavoured with oriental spices. last but not least, kris baha slices up “exit” like a tablier de sapeur (local lyonnais dish) served on a julienne of syncopated samples and noisy beats.

almost a decade after debuting the event series, audiotheque releases its first ep, including three tracks by various local artists. the first one, mikes jam, comes by berns new power duo frank spirit. it is a puristic, full analogue house jam, finalized on mike huckabys personal request. rbma graduate cclinic joins for a2. talk silver is a groovy house track which stands out for its prominent baseline and the inclusion of balearic and nordic elements. long-time audiotheque resident dj robel rounds out the record. fasiga is straight and clear, yet impulsive and fun.

brendon moeller offers up his set in motion ep on echocord sub-label echo echo this september, comprising three originals from the dub techno veteran. south africa, new york based producer and dj brendon moeller aka beat pharmacy/echologist has long been respected as one of the pioneering figures in ethereal, dubbed-out techno with regular appearances at global hot spots like fabric, berghain and cielo as well as releases on labels like third ear, kimochi, neovinyl and echocord. here though we see moeller joining the roster of the latter’s sublabel echo echo, marking its fourth release. title-track set in motion leads with brendons signature murky synth textures at its core whilst lumpy low-end tones, shuffled hats and spiraling dub echoes fluidly undulate amongst one another throughout. eastern beach follows, and as the name would suggest, nods towards brighter sounds with airy pads, soft bell chime synths and pulsating subs driving the composition alongside swinging, heavily reverberated percussion. economy then closes the package, stripping things back to gritty dub stabs, dusty 4/4 drums and billowing noise sweeps.

articulat is the (new) artist name of ovidiu stanciu, a romanian dj/producer living in rotterdam. under the moniker manikin, he worked on several concept albums with titles like popular mechanics, taxim and grandma s attic revival over the last couple of years. while selecting tracks for this debut ep it felt like curating a best of , and we chose to put three thriving and pounding slow-beat bangers on the a side, and to show more of articulat s versatile style on the b-side. expect experimental electronic songs inspired by themes like steampunk and romanian folklore, very precisely engineered to experience storytelling in the most physical way.

afterlife recordings continues its focus on emerging talent with the first solo ep of aether, following his collaboration with mind against on -solaris- and a track on the realm of consciousness compilation. from the textured atmospherics, harmonies and innovative sound design, it’s clear aether has found his voice already. balanced between the powerful, emotive techno afterlife is known for and more introspective experimentation, the three tracks share a tonal richness and patient headspace, lending themselves to the dreamy hours on the dancefloor.

i am really proud to present this 3-tracker by victor ruiz on noir music. i think he is one of the best and most flawless techno producers right now and together we have carefully picked three tracks which perfectly showcases his production skills. i often write how i’ve worked with the artists on my labels to make their tracks reach their best potential. with victor i feel everything has been served to me on a silver platter as his productions are already perfectly crafted. although victor changed details right up until last minute, some of thesetracks also dates back 2 years, so he has had plenty of time to make everything sit and sound right. after a nine month break from releasing originals i feel truely honored that victor has chosen noir music as the label for this venture. both victor and i feel these three tracks compliment each other and at the same time showcase his skills to make great, diverse music. check the entire release. the music will speak for itself.
